The Bafang 500W Front Hub Kit (FMG020) comes with all the necessary parts to transform almost any bike with an open-slotted front fork into a high-powered electric bike! This geared front hub motor kit is quiet, fast, lightweight, high-performing, hill-climbing, and well-engineered. Because the wheel motor comes pre-built and ready to ride, the Bafang 500W Front Hub Motor Kit is one of the fastest and easiest installations possible.
To make installation super-easy, we design our front hub motors to work with just about all front brake styles, from disk brakes to caliper and V-brakes! All our e-bike kits come standard with replacement mechanical e-brake levers to replace your current mechanical levers. If you have hydraulic brakes or simply prefer to keep your existing brake levers, we also offer optional e-brake sensors.
These aren't your run-of-the-mill thin and cheap tires. This front wheel e-bike kit comes with an ultra-high-performance, puncture-resistant 2.1" MAXXIS pace tire (MSRP $60) to provide peace of mind while you are out there riding! The rim is made with 12-gauge black spokes and is ready for wear and tear.
The Bafang Front Hub Motor offers both throttle and pedal assist power. You can always use the throttle in order to engage the motor if you want to take a break from pedaling! These Front Hub Motors have a surprising amount of torque and are fast as they are designed to be able to go 20+ MPH!
This complete hub motor kit includes 2 types of Pedal Assist Sensor (PAS) options for your installation convenience. The Pedal Assist Sensor (PAS) is a cadence sensor and allows you to choose the power level of motor assistance that you would like while pedaling via the PAS Level setting on the display.
This is the newest Bafang 500W Front Hub Motor with a "rated power" of 500 watts. However, with the included 18-amp controller paired with a 48V battery, it is capable of a maximum power of more than 864 watts.
Our kit includes all of the the necessary hardware and equipment to install our Front Hub Motor on your bike. There are extra add-ons available, however our baseline kit includes many of the parts which other companies piece meal out and charge more for!

My wife and I have a Radpower and Pedego e-bike at home. We decided to convert some older regular bikes at our vacation home to have the e-bike experience without paying triple the price for more e-bikes. I ordered one kit to try out and see how it worked. The templates and quizzes give you all the information you need to make sure the kit will work for your bike. I really liked how everything was packaged together, motor, controller, battery, etc. No guessing which part is needed or if it will match up with the other parts, such as voltage. The kit came very quickly (being in SoCal helps). Install was straightforward, it helps if you're a bit handy/mechanical. The instruction videos are very clear and well done. And these things rock! My wife said it felt the same or better than her Pedego. I noticed my gears max out where I'm not adding anything to the human/motor hybrid equation at the higher pedal-assists, so that's one advantage of a native e-bike I guess. Oh darn, too much power. I went with front hub for the ease of install, and I don't see any big difference with my rear-hub native e-bike back home, other than the occasional spinout when starting. Older heavy bikes seem to be a good fit with these kits, a little more metal to absorb stress and torque from motor. My one regular bike weighs in at 35 pounds, and likes having the motor.
I’m 68, and home bound with several mobility issues.
I installed the ebike kit from Ebike Essentials onto my trike and was riding everywhere within a few hours. I’m a kid again. Absolutely Incredible! The kit I got came with everything I needed to Gitty Up Go. Highly recommend.
Several years ago I got my wife a Schwinn Meridian adult trike due to equilibrium issues. Recently, knee and back problems have prevented her from using it.
After studying a number of motor alternatives, I settled upon the Bafang 500w front hub motor. My only concern was that 500w might not be enough. EBIKE ESSENTIALS claimed 20 mph, which would be more than enough for a trike.
Let me tell you, it does deliver the 20 mph. Fortunately, the display panel allowed me to set the limit to a respectable 10 mph and she doesn't even have to slow down going up hills! It takes off fast, but the front wheel drive eliminates the chance for "wheelies".
There's not a lot of straight tubes on the Meridian frame, so I had to mount the battery between the seat and the rear basket. All of the cables provided were plenty long to make this happen.
I was very pleased with the quality of the product, the sturdy packaging and the quickness in arriving from California to Florida.
Questions to Customer Service before and after the purchase were answered very quickly.
So far so good. It looks like my wife will be leaving me in the dust now that she has a little get up and go. I used this on her Electra 7D and it will be a great add on to keep her out riding longer with me.
Rather than dispose of a 1963 Schwinn Typhoon, complete with a carrier from the day it came from the Schwinn bicycle shop, this kit has breathed new life into a classic, run of the mill, one speed coaster brake bike.
The modern axle diameter (11mm) is larger than the 1960’s standard front rim axle diameter (6.35mm [1/4”]), so be prepared to address that.
After the rim is in place, the installation is as easy as it looks on the helpful Ebike Essentials video.
