Pick Up These Quick and Easy E-Bike Maintenance Habits

Pick Up These Quick and Easy E-Bike Maintenance Habits

New and prospective e-bike owners want to know how best to keep their bicycles in tip-top shape, and we’re here to help. From keeping your tires at the proper psi to checking your chain’s lubrication, read on to discover quick and easy e-bike maintenance habits to pick up.

Top Off Tires

Conventional bicycles don’t require as much tire care as e-bike because they carry lighter loads at slower speeds. Before taking your bicycle out for a spin, check the psi levels and keep your tires topped off. Your tires should come with information on ideal psi levels, but generally speaking, road tires should be between 80 and 130 psi, while mountain bike tires are best at 25 to 35 psi.

Don’t Let Brakes Break

Before riding your bicycle, you should also look at your brake pads and rotors. If you notice loose parts or significant wear on the pads, you should replace these components as necessary. Not all riders are comfortable undertaking this maintenance on their own, which is why it’s critical to have a quality bike shop to turn to.

Check the Chain

Like your tires, an e-bike chain does a lot more work than a conventional bicycle. A busted chain mid-ride is a surefire way to ruin a great day, so keep an eye on your it and lubricate it regularly. First, wipe off the chain to remove dirt and old oil. When applying fresh lubricant, use it sparingly, as excess lube attracts more grit and grime.

Better Battery Storage

Storing your battery in cold weather or with a full or empty charge is only going to ensure that you need to purchase a replacement. Try to keep your battery between 30 and 60 percent charge when you’re storing it for a long time (your manual may have a range specific to your battery, so check that, too). Bring your battery indoors for winter storage to avoid it losing charge in the cold.

Some e-bike conversion kits don’t come with a battery, but it always makes things easier when a power source comes included. We’ve got just the thing: a 1000w e-bike kit with a battery included—ride in style, and on your own bicycle!

Now that you’ve picked up these quick and easy e-bike maintenance tips, keep your bicycle safe and ready to ride for years to come!
